KERR, Kimberly Ann

October 19, 1969 – Edmonton, AB
June 2, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Kimberly Ann Kerr passed away peacefully on the evening of June 2, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving parents Gary and Marilyn, her brother Brad and her son TJ, who she loved so dearly. Kim will be remembered by her friends and family for her strong spirit, even in the face of adversity and her love of sports.

Kim originally trained in early childhood education at Seneca College in Toronto and worked for several years as a day care educator. She then had a change in her career path and became a legal assistant. She took her first position at Centrecorp and continued as a legal assistant after relocating to Calgary in 2000. Her work at Shae Nerland Calnan, Carscallen and Parkland Fuel Corporation brought her great joy and she made many close friendships during this time.

In the years before her illness, Kim took up triathlon with her good friends Erika and Sharlene. Completing the Tri Diva Triathlon in May 2013 was an accomplishment that she was proud of and she so looked forward to completing more races in the future-if only for the joy of spending time with dear friends while training.

Although our hearts ache at her immediate loss, we smile knowing that she will live on in our fondest memories of her.

Kim is survived by her son Timothy James (TJ), her parents Gary and Marilyn Kerr of Edmonton, her brother Bradley Kerr of Edmonton, nephews Henry and Charlie Kerr, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Intensive Care Unit of the Peter Lougheed Centre or by visiting aamac.ca (Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Association of Canada) and follow the link “How to help” for donation to the Association.

In living memory of Kim Kerr, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  3. Marilyn and Gary, TJ and Brad,
What a tragic loss of a lovely lady … and I only had the pleasure of knowing her for 77 days!!
The love that you showed us that you all had for Kim was profound.
Having recently started my own sad journey similar to the one that you are now on, there will be days when things just seem to much. Days when little things will remind you of her.
This process is much like healing a wound. It will scab over, you will bump the scab off and it hurts and bleeds. Eventually you will be left with a scar. The scar of losing such a wonderful lady, and the irremovable mark that she has left in someway on you all.

TJ: Mom went out fighting hard. Know that and follow her example.

Marilyn, Gary and Brad: your devotion to Kim and TJ was immense. She was a lucky lady.

Humble thanks for allowing myself and others the opportunity to say farewell to Kim.

    Dear Marilyn and Gary,
Your caring love for Kim was so evident each and every day that I saw you. It was so beautiful to watch. I hope you know that your attention to details and the advocating you did on her behalf was awe-inspiring. I especially loved the way you kept Kim going even when she waivered-you rallied alongside her to the very end. YOU are amazing examples of loving, devoted, faith-filled parents. Thank you for giving all that you did and never giving up.

    Dear TJ,
You are so special. Life is going to be very different for you now, but you are an amazing human being and although there will be days when you wish you Mom was still here on earth, feel confident that she will always be watching out for you.

Dear TJ, Marilyn, Gray and Brad & family,

Please accept our deepest condolences. We cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling and what the coming weeks/ months will be like for you. We have all lost a truly wonderful person and now we have to figure out how to carry on without her. Be assured that even though she is no longer with you physically, she will always be in your hearts. She loved you all so very much and in turn, she knew that you loved her too. We are here for you always and support you in every way.

Kim and her family came into our lives about 12 years ago. Although her life was taken much much too soon, I cherish the time we spent together. It is the memories and the lessons Kim has taught me that will stay with me forever. I will always remember Kim as living life to the fullest, loving her family and being devoted to them like no one else. She is one of the strongest women I know, determined and driven yet so very kind-hearted. She loved to laugh and always made people smile. Thank you for letting us live part of our lives with you and for caring for our family like it was your own. Erika will always have fond memories of her auntie Kim (and all her spoils!); she is proud to tell her brother stories of your visits with TJ.

Goodbye my dearest Kim; you will always be in our hearts no matter what. You have taught us to persevere and carry on and that is what we will try to do, wearing our 3 inch heels of course!.
