Jim spent his school aged years in Shaunavon where he developed his love of hockey and strong work ethic. He went on to study engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Jim began his working career with A. W. Homme Ltd. in Calgary and later Winnipeg. He soon after returned to Calgary where he started Prairie Oil Services with his partner Tom Popowich. He was also a dedicated volunteer in the Lake Bonavista Community Association and its sports programs. Jim was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Lake Bonavista Recreation Centre in the 1970’s. In recent years, he has been filled with immense pride watching his grandchildren play hockey in that same facility.
In his retirement, Jim enjoyed playing golf, swapping stories with friends over a coffee or lunch and trips back to Shaunavon, staying connected with his home town. Jim was also his grandkids’ staunchest supporter, spending many hours in the rink, at the soccer pitch, or wherever his grandchildren were playing the games they love.
