Wanda Mae Kerley beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the age of 89 years.

Wanda was born and raised in New Mexico along with 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Wanda married a Navy Serviceman in 1946. In the early 60’s, her young family moved from Texas to Saskatchewan, and later relocated to Calgary. Spiritual and spunky, Wanda was ahead of her time and enjoyed teaching and sharing her passion and knowledge of yoga and holistic healing. Wanda participated in community events, arts and theatre, loved singing, and played the accordion and piano. A kid at heart, with an amazing sense of humour and quick wit, Wanda was her true self.

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, Wanda is survived by 2 brothers, 1 sister, 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and honorary Grandmother to many more!

In keeping with Wanda’s wishes, the family will be having a private celebration of her life. The family encourages those who knew her to do something to honour your special relationship with Wanda.

  1. Geoff Lewis :

Wanda was a special friend. She called me many a Saturday night to remind me that Sunday was my day to take her shopping at the Co-op. She read off her list item by item but the routine was pretty much the same – always ending up in the take-out section with a couple of curry or chicken dishes. I would put away her groceries & slice up her fresh pineapple as she brought me a broken vacuum cleaner to fix or some family pictures to hang. She was full of wisdom – a source of energy and inspiration – a healer of the mind and the body – full of thought, experience and energy. Her poetry and writings were always worth a second read – her activities various and wide – drama, acting singing – she was all of that and more. She will be dearly missed – on the 8th Ave SE, on 5th St SE, at Lifespring Church , at the Co-op – in the Golden Age Club, at Kerby 2 (East Village), at singing practice, in the choir – by the many people that she touched and inspired. She will be dearly missed. Not least by me. God Bless, my dear friend, my inspiration and friend – with Love, your friend and companion for many years, Geoff.
