KENNEDY, Doris Hazel

February 10, 1922 – March 4, 2013

It is both with sadness and peace that we announce the passing of Doris Hazel Kennedy.

Doris was born to William and Bessie Smith of Saint John, New Brunswick on February 10th 1922. Doris was the wife of the late Douglas Walter Kennedy who predeceased her in 2001. Throughout her life Douglas was her true best friend and confident. Predeceasing Doris were her sister Betty Rutherford and brother Laurence Smith.

She leaves behind son Bruce Kennedy and daughter in law Linda of Calgary, Alberta / Blind Bay, British Columbia, granddaughters Stacy Lyn Kennedy of St. Albert, Alberta and Ashley Brooke Kennedy of Calgary, four great grandchildren; Cody, Matthew, Caleb of St. Albert and Brianna Faith of Calgary. She also leaves behind brother in law Blair Kennedy and wife Ann of Fredericton, New Brunswick and many nieces, nephews and cousins in New Brunswick, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ontario, and British Columbia.

Doris was raised in Saint John and spent the happiest days of her life in New Brunswick. In 1963 Doris and Douglas, by way of a corporate transfer, moved to make Calgary their home.
We can take relief that Doris has passed over and is with those who went before, she is finally at peace. We will miss her but also know she is in a better place.

A private family service will be held at Queens Park Cemetery in Calgary where her ashes will be placed with Douglas’s. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Doris Kennedy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone:  1-403-243-8200.

  2. Bruce and Family

Don’t know what made me go looking for an address or something for “Aunt Doie” tonight. Sorry to hear of her passing. She was Mom’s best friend and a very important part of our lives growing up and we have special memories of both of your parents. The last time I spoke to her was to tell her Mom had died, and that was in 2005. Hope this gets passed on to you. Ron Heans

  3. Doris and Doug were the best neighbours to have. They were like grandparents to my sons Kelly and Corey. We just found out and are very saddened. Our deepest sympathies. Many memories with them over the years of my children growing up.
