KENNEDY, Dennis Ray

 April 15, 1947 – Estevan, Saskatchewan
October 18, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with utmost sadness that the family of Dennis Ray Kennedy announces his sudden passing on Sunday, October 18, 2015. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Elaine; his children Jeffrey and Meaghan; his brother Wayne Kennedy (Deb); and dear family friend, Jason Smith (Tanya).

We are blessed that he was so very loved and respected by his extended family, friends and colleagues. We will miss his gentle presence daily, outstanding wit and sense of humour which brought no end of joy to the people who were fortunate enough to know him. Dennis enjoyed his career in Aviation spanning 46 years including the time with Pacific Western Airlines, Canadian Airlines, Air Canada and Canadian North. His vast knowledge and experience were well known within the industry.

We are grateful to Dennis’ passion for photography to cherish and remind us of the memories and experiences that we shared.

Dad, best husby, Uncle D, Mr. K … fondly known as the Senator, or the President; Dennis will be in our hearts and we will take him with us wherever we go.

BFN with love always.

We invite family, friends and colleagues to join us at a gathering to remember Dennis in the Reception Centre at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2 p.m.

In living memory of Dennis Kennedy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

Offer Condolence for the family of KENNEDY, Dennis Ray

  27. Tommy + Linda Thompson :

We are so shocked to receive this notice of Dennis’s own passing, so used to receiving a notice of “other” fellow airline friends met along the way.

I met / worked with Dennis @ PWA/Canadian in Calgary and one of my favourite memories of him is one sunny July morning, just before pushing a B767 out of the Calgary Hanger; the foam fire guns were set off! Dennis, Dave + myself ran for the open hanger doors to escape the foam being sprayed from 4 foam guns that were sweeping across the hanger floor. We made it safely outside while watching the supervisor [Lee] running to shut them off.
We had a good [nervous] laugh as this was an unusual event that happened at the end of our night shift. The day shift got that clean up job.
Dennis was a happy go-lucky guy, you could ask him any question and he was always there to help. I am struggling with the fact, reality that he has died and our prayers go out to his family and friends. A truly wonderful man, mechanic and inspector. We are very sad.

    Love Tommy + Linda

  28. It is with great sadness that I’ve read about the death of a special person, Dennis Kennedy. He was a great man to have as a leader especially when we were in the Quality Audit department together in Vancouver.
Dennis and myself had much in common as we came from the wee Emerald isle, (N. Ireland) from farming backgrounds, his ancestors and myself as a new Canadian. We would e-mail each other about our ancestry and he was delving into his roots with interest. It is good that he was able to visit Ireland several months ago and had an enjoyable time there with his wife.

With fond memories dear friend and may God be with your dear family at this lonesome time.

We were shocked and saddened to hear the news of Dennis’ passing this morning. I grew up with Dennis and have known him since he was in Grade 2. He and Jim Hannah and I were best of friends growing up in Frobisher Sk. In fact if you saw one of us, the other two weren’t far away. I played hockey, baseball, hunted, and went to school, air cadets and finally flying school in Brandon, Man with him in 1965. As a kid, the Kennedy home in Frobisher was my second home. Dennis was one of the nicest guys on this earth and it was not only a pleasure but an honour to have shared some time with him and be able to call him my friend. My heart goes out to Elaine, Jeff and Meaghan and extended family. I cannot imagine how difficult this is for you and your family.

I wish to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire Kennedy family at a very sad time in your lives. As a former co-worker, I not only knew him but also considered Dennis as a friend. He took his work very seriously, which is the first priority for all who work in Aviation, but at the same time he was always just great to talk to and share a joke with. He will be deeply missed by his many friends. It will always amaze me that it was always Dennis who would be the first to send an e-mail out about the passing of a former co-worker. Just recently I received a message about a young man who had passed away. I did attend his celebration of life. 52. Leonard Jalbert :

Dennis {Senator} Kennedy provided much leadership, confidence, and wisdom for myself during the trying times at PWA and later Canadian Airlines. This was the time of massive changes in the Airline industry, with de-regulation, merging companies, labor disputes, and internal conflict within employee groups and union locals. It was very scary for a greenhorn such as myself to take on responsibilities which resulted in conflict with many including high ranking officers within the airline. On a number of occasions I was about to throw in the towel as a union representative. The Senator was most often around to point out that quitting was not in the cards. He had faith that at some point differences would be resolved and our airline would go on to be one of the best in Canada. Dennis was right! The success today of Westjet starting with a core of ex PWA/Canadian employees is a legacy to his faith in his co-workers. His work in the aviation field after the Canadian Airlines days will ensure never ending fond memories from all who knew him. Management, Union Representatives, and the workers on the hangar floor will forever have a warm spot within themselves for Dennis. Never differentiating between the groomer on the night shift nor the crew chief or inspector, he will always be Senator Kennedy!! My deepest sympathy to Elaine and family. I look forward to seeing you in YYC this Sunday. Lenny

  78. Shocked and sad to hear of the sudden passing of Dennis. He was such a good guy to work with and he was always positive even when we had professional differences. We had a good rivalry going with him cheering for the Riders and me the Stamps!! Had lots of fun times with Dennis that I won’t forget. My condolences to the family.

  81. My deepest condolences go out to Dennis’s family.

I first met Dennis in 2007 at Canadian North. His amiable nature and our shared love of photography made it easy to instantly like him. As I came to know him I found his wisdom, knowledge, and integrity earned my profound respect.

I shall miss his humour, photographs, insights and frequent email banter.

    Rest in Peace, Dennis.

  85. Tanya, Martin, Jacob,Liam Du Plessis :

    Mr. Kennedy,
Such a warm, kind, patient, witty , funny, loving gentleman. So loved by your family and the people who were lucky enough to be apart of your life. I loved your sense of humour, and felt I was apart of something special when we talked. We appreciated the calming way you were with Jacob and Liam and they way your shared your toys (little model airplanes) with them, more so when you pointed out that you can share to Mrs.Kennedy 🙂 You made us feel apart of a loving family when we got to spend the many different holidays with you, Mrs.Kennedy, Jeff, Meaghan and whom ever else you welcomed at your table. You have been torn from our lives way to soon. Meaghan, my heart breaks for you and all the moments that your Dad’s passing will be acutely felt. Know I will stand by your side offering what comfort I can to you, Jeff and your wonderful Mom as you try to find your way forward from such a shocking, tragic loss.

    BFN Mr. Kennedy

    Tanya, Martin, Jacob and Liam

    Elaine, Meaghan and Jeffery:

Fond memories: some guys across the hall , standing up at a wedding, lots of laughs — what seems like eons ago or sometimes like just yesterday. It was with shock and sadness that we learned (belatedly) of Dennis’ passing. Regrets: that we didn’t keep in touch. With gentle thoughts and sympathy. Spence and Marcia Moon
