KELLOW, Kimberley Sue

November 30, 1965 – Calgary, Alberta
July 4, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Kimberley (Kim) who passed away peacefully and gracefully with her family at her side, on July 4, 2018 at the age of 52 years at Rosedale Hospice, following a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Kim was born and raised in Calgary, AB. Kim began her adult working life at Woolco Shoes, then moved on to start her career with Alberta Health Services, a career that lasted more than 25 years until the time of her passing. After completing the lab technician course, Kim worked at the Children’s Hospital as a phlebotomist. Kim later completed the Unit Clerk course and worked at the old Holy Cross Hospital and then at the Rockyview Hospital in the ICU. Kim then moved into the scheduling department with AHS. Kim continued her education with leadership courses; her caring, friendly, and effective leadership style led her into supervisory roles with: AHS Scheduling, Healthy Living Program at Sheldon Chumir, and the Supervisor of Admitting role at Rockyview General Hospital just prior to being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kim was a great wife to Sandy and a wonderful, generous mother to Nicole. She spent many evenings helping Nicole with homework followed by relaxing watching a show together. As Nicole grew, Kim and Nicole shared clothes and shoes, it was sometimes impossible to determine which item originally belonged to whom. Kim and Nicole also enjoyed much of the same music. Kim was known to read some of the books Nicole had read so that they could discuss the characters and plots.

Kim enjoyed theater, listening to a variety of music, and attended many festivals and events. She also enjoyed travelling- from road trips to Canadian destinations to overseas excursions including Greece, a country she had visited three times. Kim also developed a passion for collecting Pyrex and Vintage items.

Kim could light up a room with her smile, enthusiasm, and laughter. Even though Kim was such a bright light herself, she never tried to outshine others, she focused on uplifting and supporting those around her, providing gentle guidance and encouragement while letting their talents shine through. Kim has had an impact on many people, as evidenced by Kim’s many friends and colleagues that visited Kim in the hospital and hospice, and she will leave an imprint on many hearts and souls that will keep her spirit alive.

Kim is survived by her loving husband Sandy McLeod and adored daughter, Nicole. Kim also leaves behind her mother, Janet; father-in-law Jug; brother, Troy (Lesli); sister, Melanie; sister-in-law, Thyra; nieces, Ally, Jori, Brittany, and Casey; nephews, Zachary and Matthew; as well as a large loving extended family and numerous friends.

Kim was predeceased by her father Roy in 2016.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 14 2018 at 2:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. We would like to let each and every one know that your expressions of love for Kim helped the family through this very difficult time.

We would also like to say a very special Thank You to the staff and volunteers at Rosedale Hospice for providing such an amazing environment to allow us to be with Kim wholeheartedly throughout this difficult time and for supporting and caring not only for Kim but for her family as well.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Sandy, Nicole and all of Kims family.
The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand,
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains.
For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.

    Your smile, your laugh
    Your bright shining light
    Has not gone out
    You still won the fight

    You stayed strong and true
    To who you are
    You won the battle
    You took it so far

    You fought long and hard
    Through the days and months
You took on every rare cancer challenge
With your true grace and charms.

You live on in all of
    Your family and friends
    A true caring person
    Right until the end

    Compassionate, faithful
    Funny and bright
    God may have taken you
But he didn’t put out your light.
