September 7, 1933 – August 30, 2013
Osmo Markku “Mark” Kaustinen, P.Eng. of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the South Health Campus on Friday, August 30, 2013, one week short of his 80th birthday and is now reunited with his beloved wife Helen.
Mark was born in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), ON and grew up in Nipigon with his predeceased parents (who emigrated from Finland) and older brothers, Oskar (also predeceased) and Olavi (Ollie). He is survived by son Mark, wife Shannon of Burnaby, and their children Oliver, Spencer and Hanna; daughter Nancy and husband Cory Seaman of Millarville; brother Ollie and wife Donna of Calgary and their families, as well as many relatives in both Canada and Finland.
During his career as a professional engineer (Mech. Eng), Mark was involved in designing, building and constructing pipelines, compressor stations and related facilities. He worked with TransCanada Pipelines, Pipeline Technologists Ltd., Northern Engineering, The National Energy Board, Northern Pipeline Agency, and SNC Lavalin. He also worked as a professional engineering consultant on various pipeline projects in Canada and abroad.
Besides being a devoted husband and father, he lead an active life that included cycling, skiing, travelling, cooking, building garages, was a founding and an active member of the Stampede City Radio Control Model Club.
A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (14640 – 6th Street S.W.) on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
