June 8, 1924 – September 22, 2009

Joe Kanna of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the age of 85 years, with family at his side.

Born in Ignace, Ontario on June 8, 1924, moved to Iron Springs, Alberta in 1940 before moving to Calgary in 1954. He married Martha Reimer in 1958, making their home in Calgary. Joe worked for thirty three years with Bridge Brand Food Services, retiring in 1989. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed supporting his daughters’ sporting activities. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.

Joe is survived by his loving daughters, Cora and Stacey; and grand dogs, Gracie and Luci. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice (John) Kanashiro and Agnes Kanna as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Martha; brother, Tom; sister, Mary and his parents Chofu and Toshi.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace.     I am sooo sorry we could not make it for the funeral and am very sorry to hear of Uncle Joe’s passing. He will be remebered as a very kind man who always had a smile for everyone. I am glad I got to see him one last time on our last trip to Calgary and he will be dearly missed.
