April 16, 1950 – January 8, 2013
Beth Kalinka of Airdrie, AB passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the age of 62. She was a very devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Always motivated by the love and compassion of Jesus Christ, Beth generously gave of her time, energy, and resources to those around her, family, friends and strangers alike. She was the anchor at family gatherings. Even when Beth had no money while she was a widow, she would give the last dollar in her purse to a stranger who needed it. She sacrificed whatever she could in the moment to be a blessing to someone else, and never with a word of complaint. Those who knew her well would say that she prayed all the time and her greatest concern on her heart was for the salvation and spiritual journey of those around her. Even when not treated well by others, she easily forgave because she would say that God forgave her. Beth strived to exude the mercy, love, and compassion of Jesus.
In April of 1950, Beth was born in Bassano, not far from Rosemary, the first of her family to be born in Canada, and the sixth of ten children. They eventually began their own mixed farming not far from Coaldale, AB. Early on it was very apparent that Beth was an extremely hard worker. She was always ready and willing to help her mother with day to day chores, even working into the late hours of the evening, to get done what was needed. Her family says that she could be depended on for anything. She quietly worked and helped out around the farm. She attended John Davidson Elementary School, R.I. Baker, and graduated from Kate Andrews High School. Afterwards, she worked a year in Lethbridge at Tamblyn Drug Store after which she went to Edmonton to attend Northwest Bible College in 1969 for one year. There she met Lloyd Richardson and they married a year later on December 19, 1970 at the Lethbridge Pentecostal church. They pastored in New Brook, but shortly after moved back to Lethbridge, where their first son David was born. One the move again, they went to pastor in Jasper for a short time, and moved back to Coaldale and had three more children, Darrellinn, Duane, and Darla. Not long after their last child was born, they moved to Calgary where Lloyd returned to carpentry and began a moving business with his dad, Lloyd Senior. Beth decided to be at home with her children and was a great support to her husband. They were always involved somehow in the churches they attended, always praying for and supporting others. In 1987, her husband was diagnosed with cancer. She took care of her husband and family in the home, and went back to school to complete her Legal Secretary education. In May 1988, her husband passed away and she lovingly supported her four teenaged children in the years following. She set a faithful example in managing a home, making wise decisions, trusting God to take care of her and her family, and allowing God to change and heal her.
After being widowed for 16 years, she met Victor Kalinka. They married on November 20, 2004, so much in love. Victor became such an important part of the family. Beth was always inclusive and loved Vic’s sons, Read and Ryan, like her own. Victor did the same with Beth’s children. They lived in Airdrie, AB, and always had an open door for those who came their way. Beth worked as a bookkeeper in both Airdrie and Calgary. She stood up for truth to her family and friends and spoke encouraging words to those around her. Beth and Vic enjoyed eight precious and loving years together before her passing. Her legacy of love, compassion, and reconciliation will not be forgotten by her family and friends. Of all she did and said, her motivation was always out of love, kindness, and service to others stemming from her relationship with Jesus. She had a generous heart, and gave whatever she could to whoever asked. Her family was richly blessed because of her and we look forward to our reunion in Heaven.
Besides her loving husband, Beth is survived by her four children, David and Inese Richardson, Darrellinn (Elli) and RJ Reesor, Duane and Melinda Richardson and Darla and Jason Wutzke and their grandparents Lloyd and Marjorie Richardson; Vic’s children, Read Kalinka and Ryan Kalinka; nine grandchildren, Brianna, Kaeleigh, Meghann, Ethan, Jaydin, Nathan, Elyanah, Halle, and Samara. She is also survived by nine siblings, Dave and Louise Knelsen, Pete and Sharon Knelsen, Henry and Linda Knelsen, Maria and Lorne Fisher, Bernard and Helgrid Knelsen, Anna and Colin Solbak, Helene and Don Waugh, Benjamin and Carol Knelsen, Harry and Debbie Knelsen and their families; as well as a large extended family. Beth was predeceased by her parents David and Maria Knelsen and her first husband Lloyd Richardson.
