JONES, Mildred “Midge” Janet (nee Hogarth)

August 11, 1931 – April 7, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce that Midge died on April 7, 2013 with her family by her side.

Midge was born in Regina Saskatchewan on August 11, 1931. Midge spent her childhood in Regina, Winnipeg and Calgary before eventually settling in Vancouver. Midge attended Nursing school at the Vancouver General Hospital. She graduated in the Spring of 1953 and was married that December. Archie and Midge’s favorite spot was their cabin at Shuswap Lake where they spent every summer creating memories with their family and friends. Throughout her life, Midge devoted her time to many volunteer activities such as the Alberta Children’s Hospital, the UCW at Parkdale Church, canvassing for many charitable organizations and was an active member at the Anglemont Seniors Center. She also loved gardening and playing bridge. For 60 years Midge was afflicted with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her positive spirit shone through as she focused on the happiness of others. She never missed a chance to support her family in any of their activities. This was her fun.

Midge is survived by her son Peter (Alita Brown); daughters Leslie (Bill Mitchell), Janice (Paul Colborne) and Susan (Bill MacKay) as well as 11 grandchildren: Rachel and Morgan Jones; Katie, Jamie and Sam Mitchell; Lauren, Melissa, Joe and Claire Colborne; and Nyssa and Taylor Brown.

She was predeceased by Archie, her husband of 53 years and her older brother Gordon Hogarth.

Midge was the sunshine of our world and will be forever loved and missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkdale United Church (2919 – 8th Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. I’m sad to discover that dear Midge has passed. I got to know Midge over the past few years when she and her friend Elvie would come into my restaurant. Midge always went out of her way to ask how I was doing, and had a genuine and sincere manner about her. I looked forward to her visits, and her beautiful smile. My deepest condolences to the Jones and Hogarth families, Midge was one of the good ones. May she rest in peace.
