I’m saddened to hear of the loss of Jean. I worked with her for a few summers in the Dept of Surgery many moons ago. She was so very kind to me that though I haven’t spoken to her in many years, I’ve never forgotten her. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

  5. Sandra Dowkes :

I just emailed Jean on Monday to, once again, badger her to go out for lunch with me. I know Jean was sick, but the news has nevertheless shocked me. I worked with Jean in General Surgery, and she was the one who kept me there as long as I was. I loved her calmness and sensible mind. I loved her laugh, her wit, and… just her. Al, I’m so, so, so sorry for your loss. She was a light. I wish I had bathed in it more often. I’m sorry I can’t attend Jean’s funeral – I’m sure I won’t be missed among the many, many people who will be there to try, in their own way, to comfort you.

  6. Jean will be missed. Not only by me but by all the patients, residents, fellows and medical student she cared for and helped. She asked me once recently if I thought she had made an impact in the professional side of her life – I told her she has impacted so many lives in so many ways that I failed to understand why she would even question this. Speaks volumes to the humble woman she was.
