I quickly learned that this quiet and modest lady was very clever and impressively observant. She had a talent for reading people combined with great empathy. I soon found that I had to watch my "off the cuff" comments around her. I mentioned jokingly once that I should lose weight. The very next day, there was a variety of "diet" pop in the fridge. I moved away for a time and then came back to Calgary. Our visits were infrequent because I always seemed "too busy". I regret this because I always felt so uplifted and happy after being with her. It has been almost 30 years since we first met. Our paths crossed briefly but I would definitely describe her as an influential woman in my life. I will always remember her with great fondness.
