Opal Emilia Johnson, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Southwood Intercare, nine days short of her ninety-forth birthday.
Opal was born in Magrath, AB, October, 29, 1912 and lived there until her marriage to Fred Byron in 1930, moving to Turner Valley and later to Lethbridge. Opal’s marriage to Ralph Johnson took them to Whitehorse and eventually back to Alberta, where Ralph’s job as a pipefitter saw them moving all over the province. As retirement neared Opal and Ralph settled in Medicine Hat. In 1985 they moved to Calgary due to Ralph’s health. Our mother will always be remembered as a feisty individual who valued her privacy and her independence. Opal accepted her increasing blindness with dignity, never complaining or asking for help.
