JOHNSON, Malcolm Lewis

September 11, 1931 – June 11, 2012

Malcolm Lewis Johnson beloved husband of Daphne of Calgary, passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the age of 80 years.

Malcolm was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and grew up in Red Deer. He spent his entire working life with Gulf Oil, travelling with the company throughout Western Canada and the Arctic, before settling in Calgary with Daphne to raise their eight children. Malcolm will be most remembered for his thoughtfulness, kindness and the helping hand he was always ready to give when needed. His greatest legacy is his family – the Johnson clan has mostly stayed in Alberta, but tentacles stretch west to Victoria and east to Ontario. His children remember with fondness family camping trips throughout Western Canada and the United States. In more recent years, he and Daphne traveled to such diverse places as Alaska, United Kingdom, Arizona and Mexico. Malcolm loved all sports. In his younger years, he spent many hours introducing sports to his children and loved playing golf, flag football and softball.

Besides his loving wife Daphne, Malcolm will be greatly missed by his children, Terry (Susan), Cathy Rawles (Bob), Maureen Kawa (Larry), Rick (Val), Tony (Ruth), Don (Carmela) and Tammy; his sixteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Bill and Jim; sisters Kay Arb and Phyllis McCullough; brother-in-law Alan Lutz; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his daughter Karen Marshall (Bill) in 2000.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Malcolm’s name directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818.

It is with great sadness that I would like to express my deepest condolences to Mrs. Johnson, my good friend Don and the rest of the Johnson clan. You guys have a remarkable closeknit family and the few times I met Mr. Johnson I was always impressed what a quiet, remarkable gentleman he was. Especially to Don: I know how much you loved your father and how greatly you will miss him. I’m so sorry, “Sonny”. Everyone from the line and your ‘brothers’ at work all wish to pass on their condolences.
