John Fernando Herrera Garcia

1963-2012

Born in Bogota on January 19th, 1963 at Samaritan Hospital, baptized in honour of American president John F. Kennedy. The son of Luis Felipe Herrera Perez and Rosa Tulia Garcia Gonzales, the eight son of a family of 11 children.

He lived his childhood with his parents and siblings who relocated constantly due to their profession as teachers. John Fernando was a happy boy, he was cherished by many, he had a desire to explore and invent objects, and a chocolate lover.

At the age of 11 he loses his “great master” (his father) as he called him and at the age of 20, while pursuing his studies in engineering he loses his mother Rosa Tulia. After his mother’s death, John Fernando marries Cristina Rodriguez, who was his first wife, and mother of his first children Luis Alejandro, David Fernando and Laura Cristina.

Looking to explore new horizons and with his constant desire to excel he moves to Canada looking for a better future, in this moment of his life he meets his second wife Gloria Herrera, who is the mother of his two youngest daughters Ayelen and Aluna. Initially, he resides in Montreal and then moves to Calgary where he worked for Steven and Stevenson until the day of the incident.

In 2006 his first wife and oldest children, his first family, reunite with him in Canada, and during this time he travels regularly to Boston to reunite with his second family. In 2009 the two families begin the integration of two families into one united family.

To John Fernando the education of his children was a priority, so he decided to reside in Calgary until his three oldest children started university. His dream of seeing his three children in university was fulfilled and now his wish was to reunite with his wife and daughters in Boston.

John Fernando will be remembered as a father, a brother, an uncle, brother-in-law and a friend: happy, intelligent, noble, adventurous, go getter, affectionate, joker, and recursive. We will remember his perfectionism, his sensibility and his vision of life. He will always live in our hearts and his example will be the compass that guides our lives.

John Fernando Herrera García

1963-2012

In living memory of John Herrera Garcia, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
