June 28, 1961 – February 28, 2013
Cheryl Johanson, a treasured partner, mother, grandmother and friend left this world far too soon as a result of complications with diabetes on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the age of 51 years.
Cheryl was a proud life-time Calgarian, and a proud resident of Bowness for the majority of her years until she and Don moved to Valley Ridge in 2001.
Cheryl held jobs in her younger years but found home working at Rona in 1994 where she remained until 2010. It was there she won Rona Crowfoot’s employee of the year in 2009 and a trip to Montreal, QB. In December of 2011 Cheryl went to work for Lowes in the Install Department. She loved her new Lowes family.
Cheryl and Don endured life’s highs and lows with love, laughter, tears and respect. Cheryl looked forward to her time with Don at their trailer at the lake. She especially enjoyed the lake when shared with her four wonderful grandchildren. She spent many hours with a good suddoku or crossword puzzle. Cheryl enjoyed a weekend away and although there weren’t nearly enough of them a weekend in Radium always was a highlight. She was thrifty and spent much time discovering treasures in thrift stores across AB, BC and MB.
Cheryl and Don for many years have enjoyed darts on Tuesday eating out, stage west and jubilations whenever they could they fit in, as well as evenings with friends.
By far Cheryl lived for her grandchildren. They all adored her and she adored them. Cheryl will forever live on as these children continue to use the lessons they’ve learned from her.
Dell Café in Bowness as well as A&W in Crowfoot was integral parts of Cheryl’s eating out. She was a customer of A&W’s for breakfast and lunch on a consistent basis for sixteen years and has been a loyal Dell Café customer for over thirty years. If you ever wanted to talk to Cheryl on Thursday or Friday night you could find her at the Dell.
Travelling to Winnipeg to spend time with family meant a lot to Cheryl and while trips in recent years weren’t as frequent, memories from earlier trips remain an important part of her history. Cheryl was a great friend, that anyone would be proud to consider her a friend.
Cheryl is survived by her loving partner of 21 years Don; daughter Emmeline Johanson and her children Tyrone, Taylor and Danielle; son Greggory (Allison) Johanson and their children Christopher and Samantha; son Jonathan Johanson and Callum; brother Jeffrey (Denise) Johanson and their two children; sister Sonia (Gary) Bendig and their four children.
Cheryl was predeceased by her mother Anne Johanson on January 14, 1996.
