  15. John MacIntyre :

    Dear Ian, AJ, and Jen:

I once read that those closest to the source of joy and light suffer the most when the light is extinguished. Given the heaviness of my heart, your pain must be insufferable. Since there are no words that can light our world as brightly as Karen’s smile and laugh did, my note of condolence on Karen’s passing just seems so inadequate.

Karen was a kind, caring, compassionate, courageous woman and dearly loved by everyone whose life she touched. But for me, she was more, she was like a sister, too. Whether I was in her home or on the street, Karen always treated me like family and went out of her way to make me feel welcomed. I wish I could say it was all wine and roses with Karen, but she did have a dark side too. She once threatened to harm me if she found out that I was in the area and did not drop in for a visit. That was Karen being “Karen”; caring and sisterly to a fault. She never failed to send me a card on my birthday or fill a Christmas Card with wishes for good health and prosperity.

While distance limited the number of our get-togethers, it did not impact the number of memories Karen created. I recall several Christmas mornings, at Karen’s parents’ house, watching as family members tried to guess and then unwrapped what Karen had knitted for them: mittens, scarfs, sweaters, or a beautiful coat were ofter revealed. I actually still have a multi-coloured scarf Karen knitted for me more than 20 years ago; I wear it with my snowsuit.

I know it appears darkest to those who lose the light of the one that loves them the most but I urge you to look inward. You see, Karen’s light never really went out. It now burns brightly in the hearts of: a husband, two daughters, four grandchildren, a brother, three sisters, a father, and countless friends and relatives. Karen may have passed, but her light lives on within us.

If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Love,

    John

  16. Our warm thoughts go out to all the family. Karen was one of the few people that I knew that could make you feel welcome and at ease when you walked into the room. She did not have to say a word, but her eyes and loving smile said it all.
She will be missed but never forgotten.
    Lots of xoxo’s

  17. My deepest sympathies to Karen’s family. While I never had the honour of meeting her personally, as a friend of Wendy’s, I know how brave she was and long she suffered. Cherish the memories.

  19. John & Myrna Reid-Bicknell :

We are so sad to hear the bad news. Karen was so kind, caring and loving person, a type that you would like to have forever in your life. She would never forget to send us Christmas card every year. She made us feel important and loved with those yearly Christmas Cards. We know that she is always there for us. She made a lot of people happy and welcomed with those kind eyes and a beautiful smile. We could not believe that she left us at such a young age. We will miss her kindness but she will always be in our daily prayers as long as we live. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
