June 6, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
George Jenuth, age 83, died suddenly on Friday, June 6, 2014, at his home in Calgary, Alberta. George was an avid gardener, each year planting the finest vegetable and flower garden at his home, and he died while tending his garden on a beautiful spring morning.
George was born in Labientschach, Kärnten, Austria on January 26, 1931. He started work in his early teens as an apprentice tailor to help support his family. While working in Austria he met his then to be fiancée, Rosina, prior to immigrating to Canada to find new opportunities and a better life. He arrived in 1953 with just a suitcase, a few words of English and a few dollars he had saved. A year later Rosina joined him and they were married at St. Joseph’s Church on July 3, 1954. George worked as a tailor in Calgary for a number of employers including O’Connor’s Mens Wear, the Hudson’s Bay Company, and Woodwards until his retirement in 1997. His children, Stephen and Jacki, were born in 1960 and 1965. He was very proud of both his children, one who received a degree in law, and the other a Ph.D. in molecular genetics.
George is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Rosina; his children, Jacki of Pickering, ON and Stephen of Calgary; his grandchildren, Eric and Jill, both of Calgary; his brother Hansi (Peter) and sister Tina (Christina), both of Labientschach, Austria; his cousin, Evelyn of Calgary, together with Stephen’s wife Janice and son Justin and numerous nieces and nephews in Austria.
