JASPER, Donald

September 11, 1936 – Liverpool, England
February 4, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Don beloved husband of Margaret Jasper of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the age of 78 years.

Don and his wife immigrated to Calgary from England in 1967 with their two young children. Don then worked as a chemist and manager at Western Cooperative Fertilizer and later Monenco. He was an avid photographer and proficient linguist, speaking over twenty languages. His computer was his lifeline for the last twenty six years. Don cherished his family in his role of husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He will especially be remembered for his joke telling.

Don is survived by his devoted wife Marg; daughter Carol and her husband Brad; son Alan and his wife Florence; grandchildren William and his wife Rochelle, Donavon, Sarah, Steven and Brian; and his great-grandchildren Jamie, Lily, Evolet, and Nikolai. He is also survived by his sister June and his brother Frank and his wife Wendy.

Funeral Services will be held at THE ANGLICAN PARISH OF CHRIST CHURCH CALGARY (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. Nick, Irene, Mark and Stevie :

Dear Marg, Carol, Brad, Steven and Brian,
May all of your wonderful memories of your Dad help you to fill the void that you are feeling at his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this very difficult time.
I could not help to think of this prayer when I thought of your Dad and his long journey in this life.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered “Come With Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you, slowly fade away,
Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
    He only takes the best.
    God Bless!

Hugs from your neighbours Nick, Irene, Mark, Julie, Steven and Anna

We wish to offer our sincere condolence at this time. Though I have not seen Don for a while, I looked forward to getting his e-mails with tit-bits of information and photos. He will be missed by many of us who got to know him at WCFL, he was a great guy to work with and I will always be grateful to him for giving me (another immigrant) my first break into the technical community in Calgary. Our thoughts are with you at this time.

  7. Happy memories of the handsome young Don of the late Fifties and our adventures with St Ann’s Youth Club visits to Wales. And the fun we had when Tony and I visited you years later on our Canadian trip. Don was a doughty fighter against adversity; where many would have succumbed to self-pity, he became a master of the computer from its earliest days.
My sincere condolences to you, Marg, and to all your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. With love, from Sheila.

    Dear Marg and Family,
Our deepest condolences. My earliest memory of Donald was when his family would visit mine in Roby, England when we were children. John & I immigrated to Winnipeg in 1969 and were thrilled when you contacted us. Since then, Donald’s many emails have kept us entertained over the years. He will be sorely missed.
    Much love from us both.

  19. David and Sebina Butts :

    Dear Marg and Family,
We got to know Don shortly after we arrived in Calgary. I (David), decided to take up the trumpet and Don was so encouraging. When he had to move to Edmonton, he insisted that I take his place in The Chinook Concert Band even though I could hardly blow a note! I will be forever grateful for his encouragement, as I have persevered and continue to enjoy the trumpet still. We will miss him, his emails, and his humour. He was so proud of his family and spoke about you all whenever I visited him. He will be missed.
Condolences and love to you Marg,
    David and Sebina.

  22. Dear Marg,

Thinking of you at this difficult time. It was a wonderful experience to see the love and devotion that the two of you shared. I especially appreciated Don’s cheerful nature and his fortitude as he overcame challenges and stayed positive during his time at the Beverly Centre. It was a highlight of my day to hear his greeting and his “joke of the day”. I’m glad to have known both of you and to have learned from your example of love and loyalty and optimism.

    MEMORIES

I give you this one thought to keep___

I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night,
Do not think of me as gone___
I am with you still___in each new dawn.
