February 18, 1928 – Pietramelara, Italy
May 11, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Izzo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, at the age of 86. Giuseppe passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, May 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Giuseppe was born on February 18, 1928 in Pietramelara, Caserta, Italy, and was the third of nine children. He immigrated to Canada in January of 1961 and married Regina in October of 1964. They enjoyed 49 years as a loving and devoted couple. He worked for Atco Structures until he retired at the age of 65. During his retirement, he enjoyed vacations to BC, California, Las Vegas and Italy. Giuseppe’s yearly passions were wine making, crushing tomatoes, sausage making, canning peaches and gardening, the latter of which he spent many long hours nurturing his tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables and herbs. He enjoyed Saturday night dancing at various functions. Giuseppe’s most joyous moments were when he was with his grandchildren. During their early childhood years, he enjoyed driving the kids to and from playschool, spending quality time with them at home and at the park. On the occasional weekend, he anxiously anticipated the opportunity to babysit them again. Giuseppe loved watching soccer, hockey, and football on TV from his recliner. He especially loved attending Nadia’s ringette and field hockey, as well as Joseph’s soccer and hockey. A kind, simple, patient and humble man, he has left us with a lasting legacy full of memories that we will forever cherish. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He will be missed by his caring wife Regina; son Antonio (Linda) and his two grandchildren, Nadia and Joseph. He is also survived by two brothers, Vince (Maria) and Mario, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings, Nicola, Luigi, Teresa, Maria, Pietro and Giovanni.
