HYGARD, Beatrice Ann (nee Moore)

June 16, 1940 – Thunder Bay, ON
September 4, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Beatrice Hygard, beloved wife of the late Glenn Hygard and mother of Kirk and Stephen, passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2013 after an intense and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 73.

Bea was born on June 16, 1940 in Thunder Bay, ON. After graduating from high school in Port Arthur, she moved to Regina, SK and joined B.A. Oil (Gulf Oil) where she met her husband Glenn. Settling in Calgary, Bea worked for the Separate School Board where they had their first son Kirk in 1962. They moved to Edmonton where their second son, Stephen, was born in 1971. A few years later the family moved back to Calgary as Glenn was transferred to Imperial Oil head office.

In her younger years, Bea enjoyed travelling, was an avid skier and enjoyed golf. It was common to hear her reflect on how she enjoyed swimming at Boulevard Lake back in Thunder Bay. As time went on, her involvement and love for God and the Catholic Church grew. Volunteering in the church became an integral part of her life. Prayer groups, visiting the sick and dying, bringing Holy Communion to those who had limited mobility and other groups.

She had a special interest in helping children – especially those in need. As she aged, she couldn’t aid physically, so she did financially through various groups; such as, Holms on Homes, World Vision, The Plan, etc. Even on vacations, it was not uncommon to find Bea out playing with the local children, buying them special gifts, dinner or a smile. She was an example of how to be instrumental of our Lord living in the 21st century. She had a strong faith and took the narrow gate continuously through her life.

Bea will be remembered by her steadfast devotion to Jesus, her kindness and compassion. Her family was everything to her as she was to us. She was our best friend, spiritual advisor, wife and mother.

Beatrice is survived by her two sons, Kirk (Sheri) and Steve (Kim). She was predeceased by her husband Glenn in 2005, and parents Russell and Melvina Moore.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Dr. S.E.) on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Dr. S.E.) on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service to follow in Holy Family Cemetery at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
