December 14, 1926 – March 12, 2014
The family of Hilda Hurst announce her passing at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on March 12, 2014.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1987, 3 brothers and 5 sisters all of Bolton, Lancashire, England. Left to mourn her passing are: Daughter Lilian Shaw (Barrie), Grandson Glenn Shaw (Carrie) and two Great Grand children Graham and Justin Shaw; along with very special friends Sue, Kelly, Jenny, and Jaycee Harbidge – Joe, Karen, Breanna and Julie Stienstra, numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, where she worked as a weaver and for the Red Cross as an Auxiliary Nurse during WW11. Hilda met Jim in 1945 and daughter Lilian rounded out the family in 1948.
In the 1960’s they moved south to Long Eaton, Derbyshire where Hilda worked for the Ministry of Defence as a Senior Storekeeper. After much thought, in 1981 Hilda and Jim made the decision to move to Canada to join their daughter and family. Cochrane became her home where she made many friends and made many memories. Hilda had many passions in life, the first being her family and extended family. She was also an expert knitter/crocheter, avid cyclist, experienced traveller, and a member of the YHA and the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Shaw family would like to thank The Rosedale Hospice, Calgary, Unit 64, Foothills Hospital, Dr. R. McLaughlin, Dr. W. Hanlon, as well as the staff at Cochrane Primary Care and Grand Avenue Pharmacy for their care and kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on April 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial donations can be made directly to the Rosedale Hospice, 920 7A Street NW, Calgary, T2M 3J3.
