Wilson Leslie Hunter of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2005 after a short courageous struggle with cancer.
Wilson was born on September 28, 1916 in Millars Corners, ON, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hunter. He attended public school there and completed high school in Kemptville, ON. He then completed Business College in Ottawa, and majored in Shorthand and Typing. Wilson was Secretary for four years for Mr. J.A. Sanderson, one of the largest individual Cheese Exporters to England. He then enlisted in the RCAF in 1940 at Ottawa and was transferred to Calgary in November of that same year. He was transferred overseas and served two years with the Bomber Command in England until the war ended. Ten years after that Wilson was transferred overseas again to France to serve with the NATO forces. On return from this transfer, he served in Canada until his release from the RCAF in 1966. Wilson then worked for ten years for the City of Calgary until his retirement.
Wilson was an avid sports fan and loved baseball, football and especially hockey. He was an avid Calgary Flames Fan. As an amateur musician, Wilson played the fiddle at many country dances. He was also an active member of Confederation Park Senior Citizens Centre, where he shot many rounds of pool. Wilson will be greatly missed.
Wilson is survived by his second wife Viola; his son Fred; and his two stepdaughters Gloria (Fred) Boyle of Calgary and Malanda (Lorne)Olson of Vernon, BC; five grandchildren, Debbie, Suzie (Kerry), Selena, Tamara and Reuben; four great-grandchildren, Madi-Leith, Isaiah, Elijah and Kayla; a sister; four nephews and one niece. Wilson was predeceased by his first wife Hazel Templeton; his father and mother; stepmother; and one sister.
A Celebration of Wilson’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
