July 4, 1931 – Carlton, SK
September 23, 2014 – Calgary, AB
It is with greatest sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the age of 83 years.
Doris leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Allan (Alison) Hume, daughter Donna (Tim) Pasquino and grandchildren Luke, Samantha & Kimberly.
Doris completed her RN education and graduated in 1950 from Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. She began her nursing career in Calgary where she was very passionate about her work in the OR at the Calgary General Hospital and the Rockyview General Hospital until she retired in 1994.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, Harry (Carl) (1983) and Majorie (Spriggs, 1977), and her brother Charlie (2013).
She is survived by sister in-law Judy and nieces, Wilma, Norma and Susan, and nephew Gerald and their families, all of Saskatchewan.
Although Doris and Douglas (1995) were divorced she remained close to brother in-law Peter and Pat (2007) and their family Peter and Kathryn all of Ottawa.
Doris was very proud of her Saskatchewan heritage and continued to be a boisterous supporter of the Roughriders. Her biggest passion and allegiance was to the New York Yankees who she followed religiously. In the winter months her focus turned to the Calgary Flames.
She was a member of the Westgate community for over 56 years. She was one of the initial members of the seniors exercise program which she actively participated and met many good friends, including Pat Blair and Lynn Bridge. Mother also enjoyed the weekly bridge games at the community hall.
The family would like to recognize an exceptional caregiver and a dear friend Rachael, whose compassion over the last two years was greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Doris’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at a later date.
