HUGHSON, Ruth Helene

May 10, 2013 – Calgary Alberta

Ruth Helene Hughson (nee Leonard), beloved wife of James (Jim) Thomas Hughson, of Calgary, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the age of 93 years.

Ruth is survived by her sister Marie Leonard of Calgary; her daughter Helene Michaels (Mervin) of West Vancouver BC; her three sons Dr. William Hughson (Joanne) of La Jolla CA, Brian Hughson (Joan) of Calgary, and Paul Hughson of Calgary; her granddaughter Claire Michaels (Joey Marcelli) of North Vancouver; her two grandsons Philip Hughson (Leah) of Calgary and Patrick Hughson (Charmaine) of Calgary; and her two great-grandsons Jesse Affleck and Gabriel Marcelli, both of North Vancouver BC.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1981; her daughter Ruth Anne (whom she called her “angel on earth”) in 2003; her father Dr. Leo Leonard in 1944; her mother Helen Leonard (nee Murray) in 1981; her brother Arthur (Bud) Leonard, who was killed in action in WWII in 1944; and her sister Denise Judge in 1977.

Ruth loved spending time and playing bridge with her many friends.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through

Ruth’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to her devoted caregivers who attended to her needs for over ten years at Extendicare Cedars Villa in Calgary. Special thanks, in that regard, go to Linda Bears and Dr. Bruce Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers, Ruth’s family would be grateful if charitable contributions would be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
