Eileen May Hughes died on November 25, 2014, she was 94.
She was born in England and raised in Ireland, which she left, but her heart was always there.
In her lifetime Eileen wore many hats. She was an accomplished violinist. She worked at Selfridges when she was a young woman. She worked for the British Government during WWII and she came to Canada as a War Bride and worked for BC Electric. She owned a flourishing antique store in South Vancouver for years. Then she went back to what she loved, a connection to land and animals, and owned and ran two hobby farms in Abbotsford and Salmon Arm, BC raising sheep and chickens (of course).
When she retired and moved to Calgary she still jumped and ran, donating time to the Kerby Centre, the local school and both campaigned and “captained” for many charities.
At Eileen’s request there will be no service, but left to remember her are her son, Mike Male and her daughter-in-law, Mary Parker, of Calgary. Her sister Sadie Palmer, England, her cousin Kath Wood, BC. Eileen’s ashes will be taken back to Dunboyne, Ireland and she will return to the place she never stopped loving.
In living memory of Eileen Hughes, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.Print This Obituary & Condolences
