HORNUNG – Giles

March 5, 1966 – November 19, 2010

Giles Hornung of Calgary passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010 Calgary at the age of 44 years.

Giles was born on March 5, 1966 in Regina, SK to Paul and Eva Hornung. He came to Calgary twenty-two years ago where he worked as a Plumber; he then fell into bartending, eventually became Manager at Studio 82 and thereafter worked at Dixons. Giles started plumbing again about seven years ago after the joy of his life, Jordan, was born. The last few years he had been working at Reggin Technical first as a plumber and then as a Plumbing Estimator. During this time Giles was married to the love of his life, Cindy. He also loved sports, hockey, football, and golf. Last October, Cindy and Giles went on vacation to Mexico and both of them had a great time there – if he could have had one more vacation he would have loved to have gone back with Cindy.

Besides his loving wife Cindy, Giles is survived by his daughter Jordan (Jordan’s mother Erin), of Calgary; his mother Eva Hornung of Regina, SK; sisters, Laurel (Ray) Charles of Wawota, SK; Joan (Ken) Myers and Annette (Leo) Giroux of Regina, SK; mother-in-law Mary Huzio and sister-in-law Sheila (Craig) Roberts of Parksville, BC; twelve nieces and nephews; five grandnieces and nephews; his extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his father Paul in 2009.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. I was deeply saddened to hear about Giles, I grew up with Giles on Yarnton Crescent in Regina and he was my best friend growing up. Over the years we lost contact with each other but I have wonderful memories of our childhood. God bless and I will miss you Giles, my thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

  9. Sandra Brown nee: Horning :

Oh my goodness I am Gile’s cousin. My dad, Daniel was Giles’s uncle. No one informed us of his passing. I am reading this on facebook. Last time I and my brother Rick talked to Giles is when I head about Uncle Paul passing. Please give my condolences to all my relations. It is really too bad we all seem to have lost touch with each other.

  10. It is May 2014 and just finding this out now. My condolencees go out to all that loved him. Sadly now I know why no replies, my heart has sunk. I was a long term friend all the way back to Regina (am now living in Vancouver), for more than twenty five years. Giles always had an optimistic view of life, a pillar of strength and kind hearted nature. People always liked him and gravitated towards him, although so long since we talked definitely brings many tears to my eyes as he left a very positive imprint on my life. I always figured no matter how much time passed we would catch up and last we had talked so many happy things. Prayers that he is happy on the other side. My deepest sympathy goes out to all that loved him. Words just don’t do justice.
