August 8, 1941 – Kamsack, Saskatchewan
January 22, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Margaret “Marge” Rose Horniachek of Calgary, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away while surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the age of 73 years. Marge was born in Kamsack, SK on August 8, 1941.
Marge met and married her husband Dave in Regina, SK shortly before moving to Saskatoon, where they welcomed daughter Leslee into the world. Dave’s job brought them to Calgary, where they had son Robin. She worked in a few jobs over the years as an office administrator before retiring in 2000.
Marge was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, shortly before Dave was also diagnosed with cancer. They would attend treatments together and became closer friends during this time. At this time, Marge caught the golf bug that Dave had for years and they spent much of their time at Willow Park golf course together. When Dave passed in 2004, golf and social life at Willow Park became Marge’s new passion – she would often volunteer for events and committees and could rarely be found away from the golf course during the summer months.
Marge had a wonderful ability to create meaningful and lasting relationships with anyone who came into her life. She wasn’t ‘just a friend’ to so many people, and for her, her friends were her family. She would go out of her way to do anything for anyone. She made sure everyone felt her love, and would always hold people close to her heart. She loved to entertain, and would often go over the top in preparations to have friends and family over for dinner.
Mom will be very sadly missed by many heartbroken friends and family.
She is survived by daughter Leslee (Doug) Paterson and son Rob (Sheri). Marge will also be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren and loves of her life, Kennedy, Jordan and Makena. She was predeceased by her parents Amelia and Jacob; brothers Edward and Donald; sisters Evelyne and Sandra; niece Meryl and nephew Joe; and husband of thirty-eight years, Dave.
One of mom’s greatest gifts was her ability to make people feel special and loved, and in this manner A Celebration of Marge’s Life will be held at Willow Park Golf and Country Club (639 Willow Park Drive S.E.) on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm. We would be honoured if friends and family wish to share stories and tributes with us at that time. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
