January 1, 1925 – February 8, 2013
Frances Horhut of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the age of 88 years after a short stay at the Bethany Care Centre.
Frances was born on January 1, 1925 in Darling, Alberta. She was a very independent person who enjoyed being around people, cooking and baking for everyone. She also knitted, crocheted, sewed and did numerous pieces of needlework that are still used today at the Waskatenau Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church. When Frances moved to Calgary, she held cooking positions in various places, and after her retirement, she enjoyed playing bingo where she met many good friends that she stayed in contact with over the years: Sharon Point, Doreen Huddlestun, and Kay LaLonde. Frances also enjoyed her phone calls with Heddie.
Frances will be lovingly remembered by her children Edward (Jeannette), Debra (Garry); grandchildren Jason (Christa), Megan and James; great-grandchildren Alexander and Jordyn; and her sisters, Stephanie Ostafychuk, Phyllis Kuzminski and Lillian Chepil. She was predeceased by her parents Dora and Joseph Dukewich; brother Marion Dukewich and sister Jenny Wawrykow.
In accordance with Frances’s wishes there will be no funeral. A private family celebration will be held at a future date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
