Edna Hons of Calgary passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the age of 95 years.
Edna was born in Toronto, ON on April 2, 1917. She lived in Toronto and Kearney, ON from 1917 to 1941. She married Stuart B. Hons (1916-2007) on October 20, 1939. A world traveler, Edna lived in Cartagena, Colombia from 1941 to 1954, Lima and Talara, Peru from 1954 to 1969, Coral Gables, FL from 1969 to 1973, Brega, Libya from 1973 to 1976 and then back to Coral Gables, FL from 1976 to 1981. In 1981, she and Stuart retired from Exxon and settled in Sarasota, FL until 2004 at which time they moved to Calgary and completed their lives there. Edna and Stuart were members of the United (Methodist) Church in Toronto, ON, Lima, Peru, and Sarasota, FL. She was an accomplished award-winning amateur golfer. She devoted her energies to the advancement of her sons and grandchildren.
Edna is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Shirley) of Calgary, AB and Dennis (Edith) of Fergus, ON; grandchildren, Erik (Sarah), Bryan, Ian (Kristy), Michael (Tawnya), Kevin (Michelle), Allan (Keri), and Jordan (Douglas); great-grandchildren, Isabel, Claire, Saddie, Violet, Grace, Charlotte, Ryder, and McKinley. She was predeceased by her brother and sisters, Ernie Worsley, Ruth Lundy, and Florence Edwards; and parents Alvin and Florence Worsley.
A Private Family Celebration of Edna’s life and accomplishments will be held at Sand Lake Log Cabin Church in Kearney, ON. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
