August 3, 1947 – Bassano, AB
August 31, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Written with a pen, sealed with a kiss,
I’m here for you.
And if I die before you do,
I’ll go to Heaven and wait for you.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rick Holt, beloved husband of Sheila of Calgary, on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the age of 67 years. He left this world peacefully with the sun shining and without pain for the first time in years. He lost his battle from complications with pulmonary fibrosis after having a lung transplant in 2008.
Rick was born in Bassano, AB and grew up in Gleichen, AB. He moved to Calgary in 1963 where he graduated from Crescent Heights High School. Rick worked in the oil industry for forty-seven years and was very passionate and proud of his career. He also loved his family including his three cats. He treasured the things shared with his family, especially waterskiing, golfing, rodeo, nature and just being together playing games or dining.
Besides his loving wife and best friend of forty-six years Sheila, Rick is survived by his sons Jason (Michelle) and Tyler; treasured grandson Rawdon; brother Irv (Sharon) Holt; sister Barb( John) Waddell; sister-in-law Kathy “Kate” Tucker; cousin Jane (Glenn) Barry; and good friends Brian (Bev) Whitworth, Pat Vold and Pat (Laurel) Bennett. There were many others in his life, but these few held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret (1952), father William (1958), brother Bill (2014), and sister-in-law Marilyn (2008).
A much loved husband, father, papa, brother and friend: it is with heavy hearts we bid you our final farewell and tell you that you are loved and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life you touched.
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I’ve found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My Life’s been full, I savoured much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch,
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
