HISCOX – Thomas Bertie

July 28, 1917 – October 27, 2009

Thomas Bertie Hiscox passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the ripe old age of 92. Tom served with the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. He owned and operated Hiscox West End Garage, established by his father in 1913, before retiring in 1976. Tom and Margaret enjoyed their winters in Yuma, Arizona and especially loved ballroom dancing. Tom was known for his kindness and unique sense of humour. There was nothing he couldn’t invent, build, make or fix. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Tom is survived by his adored and adoring wife of sixty-eight years, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Mimi; daughter and son-in-law Sue and Larry; five grandchildren, Nori, Carly, Rayna, Kristjan and Afton; and five great-grandchildren. He was admired and treasured by us all. A TOAST TO TOM will be held at Staywell Manor (174 Ypres Green S.W.) on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Tel: 760-533-1766). No flowers please. So sorry to hear of your loss. I know you were very close and your father was a great mentor on how to be a great father. I met him only once and at that time he was very proud of his truck and camper (I think, they were going to travel into the states) anyway he was real proud to show be the big extra fuel tank he had installed. That must be 1973 fuel crisis when I sold the Buick.

  19. Mrs. Hiscox, Rick and Susan. Having been so long gone from Calgary, I just heard of your loss today. My deepest condolences to you all. Although it has been so many years, the picture you chose says it all in a much more eloquent manner than I could possibly put into words; a great big smile; a very, very nice man with a wonderful family even if — as your long ago neighbours across 23rd Ave. — we had to put up with Rick’s pranks on a regular basis. My thoughts are with you all.
