Condolence Messages

  1. Lawrence White :

Marj was one of the most amazing women I’ve ever met. A great friend of the Mountains, the Alpine Club, and of me. Sharp as a tack and always ready with a witty quip to my sarcastic comments, I’ll miss our afternoon coffee’s (black please!), at her Calgary home. My very best to the family.

  3. My thoughts and condolences go out to the member’s of Marj’s family today. Marj will be sorely missed, but I am glad for the time we were able to spend together among our friends in the mountains. Marj was an exceptional Honourary President of the Alpine Club of Canada and her humour and excellent advice will be missed.
I will miss our traditional greetings where we would exchange news of our families goings on, climbing Mt. Redan this summer with Peter or asking how Dianne was doing. (We went to Western Canada HS together). Marj always took great pleasure and pride in hearing of or telling others of her family.
Good bye Marj, it was my honour and pleasure to know you.

  7. Marj was a huge inspiration to me with her adventurous spirit and her graceful, caring nature. I did not know until now that her middle name was Grace – how perfect. My sincere condolences go to Marj’s family. I hope you know what a positive influence Marj had on countless numbers of people in the mountain community. She will be sorely missed.

  8. Ron and Evelyn Matthews :

We were privileged to have known Marj since the late 60s through the Calgary Section of the Alpine Club of Canada, and through the national ACC activities. She loved the mountains and the people she hiked and climbed with. She was always interested in talking with you, and had a quick smile and lovely sense of humour. She was a dedicated volunteer.

Marj and Bob provided leadership by hosting get togethers in their home in the early days of mountain guiding. There was food and drink, and good conversation. They provided encouragement for these aspirant guides to gain knowledge, promote safety, and to move forward in their craft – developing mountain guiding into a profession.

Marj was a life long and close friend of my mother for 68 years and I had the pleasure of hikes at Lake O’Hara and dinners with Marj and Bob. 16. John Christian :

My condolences to the Hind family on the loss of Marj. I’m sorry that I never knew you all to be able to more personally express my condolences, having met only one or two of you when you were youngsters. Marj and Bob were very kind to me when I came to my first Alpine Club General Mountaineering Camp back in the late 50s. They “took me in” with their openness and willingness to accept someone from the States who knew so little about their mountains and language. With each succeeding year I looked forward to seeing Marj and Bob at their home again and then often at the GMC. Marj gave me 3 wood plaques shaped like flying geese. They are still, in formation and actually facing north, on my kitchen wall to remind me to keep coming back each summer. I still do so. Marj opened my eyes to the art of W J Phillips, and I started collecting his prints with a small one, “The Mountain,” which epitomized the mountains which Marj and Bob helped me fall in love with. I have much to be thankful to Marj and Bob and sorely miss them.
