It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elwood; a beloved husband, proud father, devoted grandfather, and fast friend.
WWII veteran who served in Australia and Asia with the 1st Special Wireless Group of the Royal Canadian Corps Signals 1944-1946, and in Egypt and various posts in the NWT and Canada including service in the Militia. He was well known in the Construction Industry for his work in advocacy and labour relations. His travels worldwide took him to historical and archaeological sites in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Canal transits were a favourite including, Suez, Panama, and the Kiel Canal. Countless trips with Cunard across the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Caribbean where he could be found enjoying some great reading in their libraries. His destination was often Bournemouth, England, where he had many friends. A member of the Masonic Order and its concordant bodies, Past Grand Patron of Alberta O.E.S. and member of Zenith Chapter #85. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, #15 Cochrane. Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Royal Life Saving Instructor, stamp collector and traveller. Elwood was a gentleman of the old school, a man of honour and integrity who was dedicated to family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Mourning the loss are his devoted wife Olive, three dearly loved sons; Jamie (Susanne) of Courtenay, BC; Ron (Sylvia) of Didsbury, AB; and Jeffrey Bournemouth from the UK; Four grandchildren Ashley, Lauren, Lindsay and Evan; he is also survived by a nephew, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral Services to be held at St. Mark and St. Philip Anglican Church (1802 – 33rd Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are gratefully received to St Marks Anglican Church where Elwood was an active member for 50 years for a memorial in his memory. The family wish to thank the GARP staff at the Rockyview, Dave and Leslie Rogess, and the many dear friends for their comfort and support.
