HILBRECHT, Marta

July 4, 1916 – January 6, 2012

Marta Hilbrecht went peacefully to be with her Lord on January 6 while surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Russia to German parents, Marta married Artur Hilbrecht in 1932, and immigrated to Prince George, BC in 1951. They retired to Penticton in 1972 and moved to Calgary in 1997 to be closer to their family.

Marta is survived by her precious daughter, Elise Glans; daughter-in-law Sandra Hyslop (Larry Hyslop); her grandchildren, Laurie Glans (Donna Kennedy-Glans), Belinda Perrin (Dave Perrin), Gary Glans (Chris Gilliland), and Erich Hilbrecht (Belinda); and her great-grandchildren, Graydon, Mitchell and Liam Glans, Curtis Perrin, and Jenna and Natasha Hilbrecht. Marta was predeceased by her beloved son Erich in 1962, her loving husband of sixty-eight years in 2000, and her cherished son-in-law Jon Glans in 2009.

Funeral Services will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34th Avenue N.W.) on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, donations in Marta’s honour may be made to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) through Foothills Lutheran Church, 3104 – 34 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2L 2A3, Telephone: 403-284-1342. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mayhew and the incredible doctors and nurses of Unit 38 at the Peter Lougheed Centre.

    Laurie, Donna and family

    I was sorry to hear about Laurie’s grandmother. I had a chance to visit with her several times over the last year at the Edgemont. I was always impressed with her strong spirit and positive attitude in spite of her health challenges. She was a very nice lady.
