Condolence Messages

  1. My condolences go out to the family. During my career in corrections I worked with Mario for approx 12 years (Remand) and we had a great time together, regrettably when he moved onto the Young Offenders we lost contact. Mario always brought laughter and entertainment to the work place, and by doing this he brought our crew together and we were more like a family than a team of officers. He will be missed by all that knew him.

There are many great stories of Mario, that people will be recalling at this time. Like Leo, I too lost track of Mario, but I will not forget his good nature and big heart.

  4. Condolences help those left behind but the loss of a loved one needs time to deal with that empty space left in their lives and their hearts. Mario was a great soul, he made my life hell for the first part of my career but when I really got to know him I realized that he possessed a gentleness and genuine caring for people. It didn’t matter who you were, you mattered and that was appreciated by those he touched and he touched many, not only in his work life but also in his private life. The Lord puts all of us on this earth for a reason, we don’t know what it is but I believe Mario helped everyone to be a better person. I will miss the jokester and the laughter but most of all I will miss the man. To those left behind the best thing Mario gave you were those memories that you can recall every moment of your lives. It was an honour to have known Mario. Carmen stay strong.

  8. I have many fond memories of working with Mario during my first couple of years in the Corrections’ field. I always appreciated Mario’s intelligence and his keen sense of humor. The last time I met him was a few years ago when he was presented with a service award at Commerce Place in Calgary. That he insisted on being there that day, and getting up to receive the award himself, was inspirational. Mario was a good leader who was also a fine mentor to me. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the family.

  16. I am saddened to hear this terrible news. Mario was one of a kind, a truly good person with a great sense of humour who had a heart of gold. He was exactly what we needed in corrections – someone who didn’t take himself, corrections in general and certainly not senior management too seriously. I have many wonderful memories of him and I am sorry that he is gone.
Mario, thank you for being a part of my life- you were a great teacher and learning with you was a lot of fun. I am proud to have known and worked with you.
Carmen, Danny and boys-there are no words that I can offer to ease the pain that everyone is feeling. Please accept the expression of my deepest sympathies.

  21. Mario was a wonderful person and the world is a sadder place without him, He was a Mentor and more importantly a friend, who always had a smile for those fortunate enough to have known him, he will be missed, but not forgotten. I had the pleasure of working with Mario as a Volunteer on the Disaster response team in Calgary for many years, we had many adventures together that will always be in my heart. His kindness and caring for others never wavered regardless of the situation he was in, His love for helping others served as an example to all those around him, and his dedication to others never ceased to amaze, Although he faced many challenges of his own he never let them stop him, he was a force and I will always value our experiences together, he believed everyone he knew was a beautiful person and he had a magical way of making you believe it too even when you had doubts, Thank you to a dear friend for all you have given us. You will be missed

Carmen – my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
Mario and I volunteered with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Suicide Intervention/Prevention Program for many years. This was in the early 1980’s. We became and remained friends since. It was a vey sad moment when I heard from Carmen that Mario had passed away.
Carmen, Mario was a wonderful, kind, thoughtful, generous, funny, genuine, patient and loving man. My hope is that the memories of Mario and your life together will be a comfort.

  24. Carmen, your sons’, and their families. My sincere condolences on Mario’s passing. I met Mario in 1970 when he and I attended Notre Dame University. We used to ceaselessly debate the philosophic Psychological aspects of the world. After 1974, we lost track until 1979 we coffeed in Calgary. Mario boarded with my ex Elaine and me in 1981-82 Calgary and I fondly recall our International political discussions surrounding the Falklands War. Time moved on and next time we connected was at your wedding Carmen. I wish to share that Mario’s empathy, wit, intellect, and more so, his ability to be his own person, were all qualities of his interesting spirit. I pray he is enjoying his new life in heaven.

  25. Beverley Parkin :

Carmen — my deepest sympathy to you and your family! It’s been many many years since I’ve seen you, but I had visited Mario about 5 weeks ago at the Colonel Belcher, and feel blessed that I had taken the time to see him, but feel badly that life was busy enough that I hadn’t seen him more often, as I sensed he was very lonely, and being so much younger than that of his roommates there, it would have been nice if many of us who worked with Mario over the years, had taken the time to see him more. I have such fond memories of Mario. He worked with us in the 70’s, 80’s, and always invited us girls/guys from Records to come up to the Booking Office on Sunday mornings for pancake breakfasts etc., and he always cared SO much about all of us, and showed it! Terrible that he had to suffer so with Parkinson’s, at such an early age too. Rest in peace, Mario – you were a fine man, and will be very sadly missed!
