March 22, 1943 – March 14, 2012
It is with overwhelming sadness that I announce the passing of my friend and confidant, my husband, William (Bill) Michael Herman. Bill lived with heart disease for many years and last March, he was given a new, strong heart. Bill was looking forward to playing golf and walking along the beach and being able to spend more time with friends. Unfortunately, last November, he was given a more offending disease to battle and passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Bill fought a vigorous battle against this new invader. He fought with his ever present sense of humour and an ever present positive attitude. There was nothing that could not be conquered.
Bill was born in Regina, SK and grew up in Swift Current, SK. He worked for radio station CKSW in Swift Current while completing high school. In later years, we were often treated to a little DJ patter while listening to late night music (tempered with a bit of wine). Generally, we would also be treated to recitations of Robert Service. Bill also worked for the University of Saskatchewan Radio Station from 1963-64. After university, Bill took a job with Royal Bank and remained with the bank until 1975. At that time, Bill became a mortgage broker and eventually became involved in commercial and industrial real estate.
Friends were important and special to Bill. He was always ready to talk with friends and co-workers, to listen, to encourage, to be a friend. He was congenial, unassuming, and always put others before himself.
Funeral Services will be held at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club (12501 – 14 Street S.W.) on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Dear Heart Foundation. Please make cheques payable to: The Dear Heart Foundation c/o Macquarie Private Wealth-Suite 2200 440 2nd Ave S.W. Calgary, Alberta T2P 5E9, Attention: Kelsy Nelson. Bill was grateful for the support from Foothills Medical Centre Transplant Team, both before and after the transplant and during this last siege. They were there for Bill and for Ann every day. They were a source of strength. They were friends and were like family and eased the pain and fear of the journey.
In living memory of Bill Herman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.Print This Obituary & Condolences
