Cornelius Heppner beloved husband of Irene Heppner of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours at Sarcee long term care on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the age of 80 years.
Cornelius was born in Waldheim, SK and grew up on the family farm with his older sisters Elsie and Gertrude and younger brothers Oliver (Ruth) and Alvin (Lavina). He helped on the farm and finished his schooling through correspondence. He went on to follow his calling as a teacher by attending teachers college in Saskatoon after which he taught in one-room schools in the Saskatchewan communities of Mayfair and Goldbank. He moved to Calgary in 1960 and continued teaching grades four to six at various schools in the Public system while working on his Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary. He retired in 1988 and continued as a substitute teacher for several years before truly enjoying his later years. He took great joy in traveling, curling, going for walks in the community and finishing odd jobs around the house and yard after doing his daily crossword puzzle. He was able to enjoy three months at home this summer between his stays at Glenmore Park.
Cornelius is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Irene; and son Lindal. As well as all those whose lives he touched will remember him.
A Private family Graveside Service will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
