October 6, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta
On Sunday, October 6, 2013 we had to say goodbye to a truly smart, honest and all around amazing man; our Dad, Mentor, Grandfather and Great-grandfather, Anthony Joseph Hendry.
After surviving WW2 and having a little boy to take care of, Mom and Dad realized Canada was the place to prosper and raise a family, so over 60 years ago, that’s what they did. Dad was unhappy at first, but once he landed the Director of Finance job for the City of Calgary, he knew they had done the right thing. Dad was able to retire at a young age (57). Mom and Dad were healthy and they were able to pretty well travel the world for the next 25 or so years. They both vowed after the war they would not be apart from each other. Mom passed in May and Dad’s health immediately started to deteriorate. He has now gone to be with her. May you both rest in peace together, Mom and Dad.
Mourning Dad’s passing is his son Alan (Carol); daughter, Karen (Neil); five grandchildren, Leah (Martin), Travis (Sandra), Kelly (Lee), Drew (Heather), and Tara (Ramiro); and four great-grandchildren, Aden, Ava, Jordan, and Talon.
Dad was predeceased by his only brother, Trevor, in January 2013.
As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. We would like to send our sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Sarcee Hospice for their care and compassion that Dad received; it was truly second to none.
In living memory of Tony Hendry, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.Print This Obituary & Condolences
