December 31, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Gordon Helbak, beloved husband of Rose Helbak of Airdrie, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the age of 85 years.
Gordon had a forty year career in the sheet metal industry. His roles included tinsmithing, estimating and project management. Gordon achieved a Master Tinsmith designation at a very early age. One of his proudest achievements was his fifty-one years of sobriety and his special relationship with his Sponsor, the late Dick McBride. Gordon had artistic pursuits that included drawing and creating metal sculptures that are still on display today. In his later years, his vegetable garden and bbqing on the deck were a great pleasure to him. Over the last two years however, he faced with strong will and determination, many significant health challenges with his loving wife and sole caregiver at his side. The family wishes to acknowledge the care and compassion by the staff of McCaig Tower ICU pod C, main building Unit 62 staff but most especially Dr. Michael Geoghegan for his patience, compassion and medical expertise at a most difficult time.
Gordon is survived by Rose, his loving wife of sixty-five years; his daughters Marcy Kennedy (Jim), Lin Taverner (Bob) and Melissa Hartwell; brother-in-law Andrew Verag and several nieces and nephews.
