HECK, Mathew (Matt)

January 1, 1928 – May 19, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matt, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Matt passed away peacefully at the Santuari Hospice on Sunday, May 19, 2013, with his devoted grandson Chris at his side, losing his fight against lung cancer. He was predeceased by his dear wife Levina in January 2011.

Dad’s working years were mostly spent operating various Esso Service stations in Calgary. Upon retirement in 1980, he devoted his life to organizing and canvassing door to door for many charities including the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Society, Lung Association and MS Society. Matt was a devout parishioner of the Corpus Christi Catholic Parish since 1959.

Matt is survived by his children Rod (Kathy), Rosalie, Donelle (Paul), Dan (Dede), Norma (Mike); grandchildren Brad, Chris, Andrea (Chad), Megan (Dave), Corey (Justine), Alaina, Scott, Erin, and Nigel. He was especially proud of his first great grandson, Jace.

He is also survived by siblings Marie, Ann, Liz, Eleanore, Eddy, Bernie, and Peter.

He was predeceased by his parents Christian and Katherine Heck, and his sister Rose.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’s Chapel of The Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place NW) on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences at www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Memorial tributes may be made directly to any of the above charities.

In living memory of Mathew Heck, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Norma, Danny, Rosalie, Donelle, & Rod
Simons Crescent will not be the same. The little place we all called home at one time will now be changed forever. Memories will always stay with us & we will all miss driving up the crescent looking for your parents in the kitchen window. Now they are together again looking through a different window. Take care all of you and I hope that somehow we can manage to keep in touch. Miss you Norma.
    Love Wendy Haskayne

  6. Dan and Vicki Downey :

I have many great memories of the Heck family growing up, the service station and of Tipton Place. We were part of Dan and Dede’s wedding and have since moved away. Anytime we were visiting Calgary and went to mass I looked forward to chatting it up with Matt, and he might even put you to work on
the collection plate. The last time I saw Matt and Levina was at a memorial cemetery service I attended with my Dad and we had a great visit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
