HEBENTON, Dorothy Ann (nee Christianson)

August 2, 1930 – October 12, 2012

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that Dorothy, beloved wife of David James Hebenton, passed away peacefully at her home on October 12, 2012 at the age of 82 years.

Dorothy and David were married fifty-six years and raised three children. She was predeceased by David in July 2010, her parents, Franklin and Jesse (Jet) Christianson, brothers Gerald and Bruce Christianson and sister Patricia Killey.

Dorothy was born in Drumheller, AB, spending her young years in Three Hills and Vancouver and then coming to Calgary, attending Central High School and Mount Royal College where many lifelong friendships were made. Dorothy loved her many horses and dogs through the years and enjoyed music, literature, bridge and endless shopping from any catalogue she could get her hands on. The primary focus and passion of life was her family, in being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend expressed by her interest, awareness and love for all of them. Hers was a life of unwavering devotion, unbelievable strength and determination – a life of unsolicited “I love you’s”. With a fabulous memory, quick wit and perpetual sense of humour, she often had family and friends laughing to the point of tears – “I’m happy – I laugh too much!” Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for the strength and grace with which she carried herself throughout her life and sheer determination to live with dignity in the face of a relentless disease.

Dorothy will be so dearly missed by her daughter, Susan (Larry Carter), sons, Christopher, and Michael (Julie), her five cherished and adored grandchildren, Tyler, Jesse, Jorden, Kian, and Emma and by her loving nieces, Cass Ogle, Tracey Hebenton, Karen Bannister, Wendy Christianson; nephews Keith Christianson, Brad Hebenton, and Jim Killey; sister-in-law Violet, many grand-nieces and nephews and very special friends, Maryann and Donald Harper, Verlie Wood, Dorothy Hatfield (Florida), and Laura Salatino.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all friends and family who have extended their support, prayers and love. A very special thank you to Dr. Helena Mentz, the wonderful staff of the caring team at Focus on Caring specifically Carla, Sylvia, Erma, Lani, Lisa and Sally who provided years of support and wonderful care to Mom enabling her to be at home, where she wanted to be.
We love you Mom – you were the very best and will live in our hearts forever.

Friends and family are invited to attend a gathering in the “Crump Room” at Christ Church (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are with you, Larry, and your family as you travel this difficult path. Your mom was an amazing lady; she lived with grace and dignity despite her struggles with MS, and she loved all of you with her whole heart. She was a classy lady, and you are more like your mom than you know, Sue.

As a long ago neighbor of yours, when we were younger and both lived near each other, we want to let you know how sad we were to read of your Mother’s passing. We still reflect on the enjoyable times we had while living with the Hebentons and all the other nice neighbors, even though we moved away some 40+ years ago. May you find comfort in all your memories of your wonderful Mother.
