He worked for his father at Head’s Lock & Key in Calgary and later moved to Red Deer with Helen to start the Red Deer Lock & Key and raise a family. His locksmith and sporting goods business flourished along with his business partner Emile Hermary (gunsmith). In Red Deer he made many friends, joined the Lutheran church, and was a leader in Boys Brigade. He served for a term (1956-58) as head of the Red Deer Fish & Game, was a member of the Red Deer Golf & Country Club, and enjoyed golfing in the early years with Helen. He enjoyed countless hours fly fishing in Prairie Creek and area. After retirement he moved to Courtney, BC and had a small salmon fishing charter business. It was in Courtney where he built two beautiful wood model ships. Upon return to Alberta he built a home in Bearspaw Village and spent his time with building projects for family and friends and really took pride in everything he touched. He finished his basement in Silver Springs and Scenic Acres as well. He formed many special friendships with members of the congregation and leaders of the Alliance church in Calgary.

Condolence Messages

  1. Jamil & Nada Mattar & Family :

    The Head Family,
We were very saddened to receive the unexpected news of the passing away of your dear Father “Cec” as we knew him.
For us, it was a shock, when we heard the sad news from Judy, since it was only a few weeks ago that we had last spoken at length, after his Cataract surgery and he was feeling strong again as always.

Firstly, please accept our heartfelt condolences at the loss of Dear “Papa Cec”,
(we would hear our kids refer to him as they would walk to school every day).He will be missed by all of us who knew him.
Cec has also acted as a Father- like Figure to us all since we were living next door to him in Scenic Acres and to this day we feel he is still near us.

We the Mattar’s, Murr’s, and Webb’s from Calgary, extend our Deepest Sympathy , and Prayers. we know he is with Helen in Heaven and will always look after us all.

    “May he rest in Peace”

    Jamil, Nada and family.

  2. “Uncle Cecil” taught me the finer points of fly fishing on Prarie Creek and showed me patience and persistance and a love for the outdoors that I still have today. At my grandfathers’ (Wynn Kline) birthday picnic 2 years ago he presented me with flies he tied, showing he was still keeping his hand in the sport, even though he wasnt really fishing anymore, flies that still work as well as they ever did. Kind, generous and always helpful, I will always remember his generosity with a new young fisherman so many years ago.

  3. joanne paulson (Kirk) :

I am so sorry I didn’t send flowers. I will be sending a large donation to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in memory of your dad. I have so many great memories of your mom and dad espeially building things around Kirk’s(at the Courtenay and Campbell River stores..)with Frank Loor and the mom and dad’s house at the beach. I remember when they used to come out from Alberta and fish with your uncle Earl and dad out at Salmon Point. Lots of seifert’s corn, barbecued salmon and home made wine where ever they were, the days filled with laughter and great times. He was a kind and gentle man. He loved you kids and you mom. He was a man of integrity. His word was his bond. You could count on him what ever it was. Now my mom and dad are with your parents and the Corbett’s. What a gathering it will be…you are all in my heart, my thoughts and my prayers.xoxox
