  4. (Ms.) Jan Mah :

I am so sorry about the passing of Dr. Hayes. My family and extended family members were patients of his since he started his practice in Calgary up to the present time. He always had scores of jokes that he told while we were sitting in the examination chair and someitmes we laughed so much that I’m sure other patients could hear us. I will really miss his wit & humor. He really thrived on his connection with people. Our condolences to your family.

We wish to relay our sincere sympathy at the loss of Dr. Aubrey. We have been patients of his since l972 and will miss our bi-annual vists to his office. He always treated us with great care and consideration. He was a knowledgable man, and could converse on many different topics, which brought even more anticipation to visiting him in his office. We know that you, the family, will miss him terribly as well as we the extended family. “Vaya con dios”. Go with God, Dr. Aubrey.

Our whole family is very saddened to learn of Dr. Hayes passing. We always enjoyed going to see him, not only as our eye doctor, but also he was a wonderful person to speak with and very personable. Dr. Hayes was down-to-earth and always put a smile on our faces. He was never in a rush and always made time for us. On occasion, I had an emergency eye matter come up and Dr. Hayes always made time for me to see him. My parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joo, along with my husband, Raymond and myself will sure miss Dr. Hayes’ compassionate care.

Our deepest condolences to the Hayes Family at this time.

We recently were both patients of this amazing and wonderful man. We both are very upset and shocked by the news of his passing. He was the coolest and most chatty sweet guy ever and after getting our eyes tested we both bragged about how awesome our doctor was and how everyone should see him. I hope that his family which he told us so much about is doing ok and isn’t suffering too much without the most friendly, sweet, amazing doctor ever.

To Martha and your children, Verina and Daniel,

The loss of your husband and father was extremely sudden from all accounts and therefore gave you no time to prepare for an immense change in your family structure. Yet I think that it is the way most of us would like to depart; no long stretches of treatments that only leave one clinging to life, days and months of life ebbing away.
Instead Aubrey was able to be a caregiver rather then seeking care right to his final few days on this earth.

  10. Francis (Chinese Guy) :

I am feeling we are all missing Dr. Hayes this moment. I would like to say thank you from my heart to Dr. Hayes for all the eye care visits he offered to me. He was a wonderful person which I met since 1988. He was really an excellent doctor always willing to share his knowledge to give help to patients with love.

I could sense the warm, comfort, touching and humor words he shared with me in a relax way every time I visited his clinic. He made my health and mind going a lot more stronger by his compassion and humor words rather than just depend the help of medication.

I can see God’s present in him by noticing the way how he treated his every patient with such a sympathetic heart. He has been participate as an important part how a doctor’s using up all his valuable time serving inside a health medical field with all his big effort and talent to make available many of us over this local area Calgary. I would not forget his presence to me.

Thank you Dr. Hayes for everything!!!

I pray all kinds of Angelic Energy will come around to help us to claim down and make comfort our present sorrow moment especially to Dr. Hayes’ family and his relatives.

With my deepest respect from the bottom of my heart – Francis

It was with great sadness and deep sorrow when I learned of your loss this morning. Dr. Hayes will surely be missed by all who knew him.

I certainly enjoyed the “professional visits” for my check-ups where we shared many laughs together over the years, and I will miss him, not only as my eye-doctor, but as a real gentleman and a good friend. Dr. Hayes has left many happy memories with me.

My thoughts are of your family and I would like to express my condolences to all at this time.

Dearest Martha, Verina, Daniel, Christine, Nigel and Eamon, It is a sad time for you all and so little time to prepare for the change in your lives. Aubrey will be greatly missed by all who knew him and for us, all the more. He was so special to our family – it is almost 40 years ago since he gave me away at my wedding in Banff. I am hoping he is among other great story tellers now. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Rhya & Bill

  14. Grainne Neilson (Conway) :

Dear Mrs. Hayes, Verina, and Danny,

Dad forwarded me the notice of Dr. Hayes’ death and I was very sorry to read it.

I am sure you know just how much a part of my youth your family was, and how much of a ‘character’ your Dad was considered to be by our family. One abiding memory is the day he took us to the Calgary Tower for lunch, and to Blazing Saddles when we were about 10 or 12! It was the most risque movie I had ever seen at the time, and whenever I have seen it since, I am reminded of his quirky sense of humour.

It is odd how things change…..we are all living such disparate lives in far off places, yet there is a thread of common history that provides an enduring tie. I was visiting my Dad in March and we drove around Mount Royal. There is a HUGE monstrosity of a house where yours used to be; ours has been renovated beyond recognition, and there is a new house in every space possible. So much for “roots”!

I apologise for these ‘on-line’ condolences, as I have no doubt your dad would have found it ‘tacky’ as hell, but I don’t have any other contact for you.

I am thinking of you at this time.
    Grainne Neilson

    Dear Dan, Christine and family,

I met Dr. Hayes in 1998 and had the pleasure of working with him for eight years. I loved listening to his stories and the wisdom that went along with them. He also spoke lovingly and with pride about his family. Dr. Hayes, a wonderful doctor and gave his patients the kind of care that is lacking in today’s world. He had a great sense of humour and was a kind and gentle man. I loved working with him and will miss him dearly.

My sincerest condolences to the family.

  20. Gail McLeod :

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Hayes death. I moved to Calgary in 1983 and he had been my eye doctor ever since. I brought my children to see him for their eye exams and when my father was visiting, he enjoyed a visit disguised as an appointment. In spite of moving farther and farther away from downtown and not really enjoying the parking and traffic of downtown, I truly enjoyed our chats and never considered finding an eye doctor closer to home. After our family trip to Ireland we had a good conversation about that wonderful country and about travel in general. I’ll really miss my visits. My condolences to Dr. Hayes family.

It was really a shock to hear that Dr. Hayes passed away. We moved to Calgary in 2003 and since then we would visit him aleast twice a year. I took my dad for his eye examination while he was visiting us. He was so friendly and compassionate that he will be missed by all of us.

He has given so much to others that we surely know that his soul has been tranfered to the paradise, where he will have a more happier ending.

Very sad to hear of Dr. Hayes passing. I always looked to book the first appointment with him in the morning as I always knew he had so many stories, thoughts, and knowledge to share with me. Especially when he found out I lived in Ireland for a number of years and took my degree there. What a wonderful man. Even after moving to Saskatchewan I still kept him as my eye doctor.
Wonderful man who shared all that was wonderful to everyone around him.

    Sincerely, Michael Fitzpatrick

Wow, I googled Dr. Hayes name to findout his phone number to make an appointment & discovered that he’s passed sometime ago. He was a kind, gentle man who was always interested in my story. My memories as a young girl is going with my mother to his office on 4th ST, before he moved across the road. He was so open to working with First Nation people & treating them as equals. Thank you Dr. Hayes for being such a great man. Your time here on earth has been of great service to your fellow human beings, not many of us can speak to being of this kind of character.
