HAWKINS, David James

June 27, 1944 – February 4, 2013

David James Hawkins passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the age of 68 years.

David was born in North Bay, Ontario on June 27 1944. Ambitious and inquisitive by nature, he completed his Bachelors and Masters degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Following, he was awarded the prestigious Athlone Fellowship and attended the University of Manchester where he completed his Doctorate. While abroad he explored Europe and developed affection for the Alps, skiing, wine and history. After returning to Canada he courted the love of his life and married Levinia Patulot Hawkins on October 4, 1975. They moved to Calgary to start a family where he became an active member in the local community. As a consultant he was known for his integrity and work ethic; and was a trusted advisor to his clients and peers. Later in his professional career he started his own firm, which proudly donned his family name. David was a dedicated and wonderful father and generously provided his three children the opportunity to grow and experience life through sports and travel. David also shared his passion of discovery with his wife, visiting destinations across North and South America, Australia, Europe and Asia during their thirty-eight years of marriage.

David leaves behind his loving wife Levinia; three children James, Steven (Laura), Mary (Peter); grandchildren Jorja, Levi, and Leonidas; brothers John (Jane) and Paul; and many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Margaret Olive Hawkins. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the A.L.S. Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Suite 250, 4723 – 1 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2G 4Y8, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  10. Dear Family,
I first met “Dr. Dave” in my beginning years in the Natural Gas Liquids business circa Mid 1970’s and Dave was with Purvin & Gertz. He was kind an helpful to me and was an inspiration with his great mind and encyclopedic knowledge of all things NGL. It was my pleasure to know him and have fond memories of ‘back in the day”
    Respectfully, Bob Cochlan
