January 28, 1975 – December 13, 2011

Matia Hawkins, beloved wife of Colin and mother to Sean of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the age of 36 years.

Matia was born in Nairobi, Kenya and received her education in Kenya and attended university in Switzerland. She later worked in Tanzania and Kenya in the hospitality industry. Colin and Matia met in Zanzibar and were married on June 12, 2004 in Karen (Nairobi). Matia immigrated to Canada in February 2005. She worked in the retail industry in Calgary and later attended SAIT, where she received her diploma in Petroleum Land Administration.

Matia is survived by her loving husband Colin; her son Sean; her mother Betty Kipsaita; her sister Stella Kipsaita; her brother David Kipsaita; as well Colin’s family Robert, Scott and Grant Hawkins and families.

She was predeceased by her father Stephen Kipsaita and an older brother Kippy Kipsaita.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Anglican Church (2828 – 19th Street N.W.) on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

    Colin, so very sorry to see one of the most beautiful women I know leave us so early in life. Matia will always remain a beautiful spirit in my mind.
