It is with much love and sadness that we announce the passing of George Arthur Harman, dearly beloved husband of Jean, on June 1, 2012, at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
George grew up in Montreal and joined Canadian Pacific Railway Company in 1940. He took a leave of absence in 1943 to serve with the RCNVR as a telegraphist onboard a Corvette on North Atlantic convoy duty. He returned to Canadian Pacific Railway in 1946 and spent the rest of his career with the Company in various positions in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal before retiring in 1989. George and Jean moved to Calgary in 1994 to be close to their family, where George spent many happy hours on the local golf courses and in his garden.
George is survived by Jean, his soul mate of sixty-three years; three children Susan Gill (Wayne) of Calgary, Doug (Sharon) of Edmonton and David (Maureen) of Ancaster, ON; also by his grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Leona Jean, Emma, and Cady; as well as his sister Muriel Staley of Oakville, ON.
