HARGRAVE, Donald “Don” Reese Fremont

October 19, 1925 – July 22, 2012

Donald Hargrave, beloved husband of Noreen Hargrave of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the age of 86 years.

Don was born and raised in Redcliff, AB. He received his education in Redcliff and Medicine Hat. He joined the Navy in July, 1944 and after the war attended the University of Alberta. He was involved in the early days of seismic exploration starting in 1948, “doodlebugging” all over Canada and the world. He married Noreen Cuyler of Medicine Hat in 1950. During his career as a geophysicist Don worked for several companies including United Geophysical, Accurate Exploration, Seismograph Service Company, Integrated Velocity Services, Globe Universal Sciences in Algeria, Rogers Exploration in Kenya, Resources Engineering & Management in the UK, and back in Canada at PanCanadian, BP Exploration and Home Oil. Don semi-retired in 1990 and consulted until 2000. Don enjoyed his workshop, spending many hours tinkering with his cars and restoring a 1972 right-hand-drive ex-police Volvo that he brought back from England. As the descendant of early Alberta pioneers, Don was always ready to improvise or invent whatever gadgets he needed to get the job done. Don was a fan of jazz piano music and faithfully listened to the Old Disk Jockey on CKUA every week. Every day he completed a crossword puzzle and made several of his famous puns for the amusement of all.

Don is survived by his loving wife Noreen; son David (Janet), daughters Jane (John) of San Carlos, California and Anne (Scott) of Penticton; two grandchildren Ian and Heather Nelson in California . He was predeceased by his brothers Ralph (Mary) and Richard (Jean) and his parents Carl and Aimee Hargrave.

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway Crowfoot Chapel at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
