HARBICHT, Jill Ann (nee Harvey)

October 16, 1952 – September 23, 2011

Jill Harbicht, beloved wife of Stephen Harbicht of Calgary, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with amyloidosis and cancer at the Tom Baker Center on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the age of 58 years.

Jill was born on October 16, 1952 to Norm and Nora Harvey in Carberry, Manitoba. Throughout her childhood, the Harvey family called many places in Manitoba home. Jill married her husband Stephen in 1975 at the Rock Lake United Church Camp, Manitoba. For nineteen years Yellowknife, NT was home to Jill, Steve, and her four wonderful kids; Kim, Laura, David, and Andrew. After retirement, Jill and Steve relocated to Calgary, Alberta and enjoyed much warmer winters. Jill lived a full and busy life, never wasting a moment. She devoted herself to her family and cherished her career as a Registered Nurse in Winnipeg and Yellowknife. Her life was balanced with music, church, volunteer pursuits, golf, and her many wonderful friends. Jill was a driven, loyal, strong, determined and honest person. To her husband, she was a beautiful companion, a loving friend, and a soul mate to the end. To her children, she was a great teacher, loving mother and an inspirational roll model. To her three beautiful grandchildren, she gave endless hugs and kisses and leaves them with wonderful memories they will cherish forever. She was generous, compassionate, caring, kind and a true friend to everyone she knew. We are blessed to have shared her life.

A Celebration of Jill’s Life will be held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Boulevard N.W.) on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 3. On behalf of the Brown family from Yellowknife, we want you to know that Jill will always hold a special place in our hearts. She was a gifted person. I shall never forget her musical talent and her faithfulness. I can’t think of YK United Church without picturing Jill up at the front. But more than that, I’ll never forget her singing to my father while he was dying. It was the most precious gift of all. I’m so truly sorry for your loss.

Stephen – Although we have never met you and your children I knew Jill and her family growing up in Souris and used to carpool with Rob and Jill to Brandon for music lessons. My parents were friends of Nora and Norm’s and my brother, Brian, a friend of Rob’s. My husband, Bill, and I have also run into Norm and Nora occasionally since we moved to Winnipeg over 20 years ago. We wish to express our condolences to you, your children and grandchildren, as well as to Norm and Nora and Jill’s siblings and their families. Carol and Bill Potter (formerly Carol Saunderson)

    Steve and Family,

I am so sad to hear of Jill’s passing. She was an amazing woman! I remember going into a surgery in Yellowknife and I knew I was in “great hands” as she was my nurse. Jill had this genuine love and kindness that came through her actions, her facial expressions and touch. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal…love leaves a memory no one can steal! To Stephen and family,
We are so saddened to hear of Jill’s passing. Lorna just told me today, and I was shocked that she is gone. I met her once at Mom and Dad’s (Norman and Mary Bell’s) when your children were very young. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and must have had many friends. Life is so very short for so many wonderful people. I do hope time will make your sadness lessen, but all your memories of Jill will last forever. Donna and Wayne

Each spring in Southern Manitoba a quilt auction is held for the camp and somewhere between 10,000 – 15,000 dollars is raised. Last spring my 2 baby blankets sold for 95.00.
