HANNA, Terrance Ward

October 5, 1951 – Edmonton, Alberta
May 16, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Terrance (Terry) Hanna passed away peacefully surrounded by his family early on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

Terry was born to Ward and Trudy Hanna on October 5, 1951. His father, Ward was in the military and the family moved many times until finally settling in Calgary. Terry grew up with his sister, Nora (Sunderland) and had a close and loving relationship with his parents until both of their passing.

In 1982, Terry married the love of his life, Linda (nee Scott) and bravely took on helping her raise her two daughters, Kim (Bailey) and Dara Lee (Beingessner). His patience in raising two daughters paid off finally when he became a grandparent. His pride and joy were his five grandchildren: Brendan, Kennedy, Evan, Cassidy and Rosalinda, who will always remember “Grandpa Terry” or “Papa” for his dry sense of humour, his elaborate stories and his kind and gentle nature that always protected them from certain trouble. He had all the time in the world to teach them something new on the computer, tell them a story with little known “scientific” facts or stories of his own Dad’s time in the Canadian Air Force.

Terry was predeceased by his parents, Ward and Trudy and will be lovingly remembered and held close by all those who loved him, especially his wife Linda and daughters, Kim (David) and Dara Lee (Frank); his grandchildren, his sister Nora (Neal) and his nephews, Ryan, Cameron, Daniel, Marvin and Neal. Terry will also be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews on Linda’s side.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Chinook Hospice, nurse Maja from Foothills Medical Centre Emergency, and especially Dr. Scott Dowden for the kindness and compassion that Terry received while under their care.

A Celebration of Terry’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations be directed to the Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank in Terry’s honour. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Terrance Hanna, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-256-9575

I met Terrance through a project the two of us were on together. He would call me from time to time to chat. He was very knowledgeable on all things computer related. He was very interesting to talk to, sharing stories of his past careers. Loved it!! I enjoyed our conversations and he always spoke of his family and grandchildren with great affection and pride. When he was off sick I kept in touch in with him to let him know I still thought about him and cared about him. I had the opportunity to see him at the office in Calgary several months ago. I was happy I got to see him and give him a big hug!! He was a very kind man and I will remember him fondly! My heart goes out to all of you as I know he will be sorely missed!

  6. Barry & Christine Coggins :

We were so sad to learn of Terry’s passing. We both loved him. Barry and he shared a sense of humour that was dry and sarcastic. Our time working with him on Linden C.O.P. was fun, and we always enjoyed spending time with him. Linda and family, our thoughts and prayers are will you. We will do our best to make it to the memorial service today, but not sure we can make it happen. Rest easy, Terry, and know you were well loved.
